And while the drony music drones…
…is anybody else willing to join me in the heretical-on-Oscar-night admission that they had more fun watching TV than going to the movies this year?
The best picture nominees, while moving and important, were not necessarily a good time (Oscar likes happy endings about as much as Anna Wintour likes fat people).
TV was fun. And funny. And did not require me to spend fifteen bucks an hour on a babysitter.
Okay, I admit. Until 14 months ago I saw an average of 2 movies per week at the theatre. Then I had a baby, who happens to be named Oscar. So I saw fewer movies this year than I usually would in a month. But I did get hooked on Project Runway, Arrested Development, and The Office.
it’s the babysitter money that kills. We laid out big bucks for “Capote” only when visiting my folks. Long live t.v.
(Turns out, though, that I can sneak in a flick on some Friday afternoons–I teach my last class at 1 and daycare goes to five. If I’m really organized…. Well, I did it once…)
I felt a bit guilty when I saw Charlize Theron and though about the last season of Arrested Development…
Absolutely — TV’s great right now. For all the complaining about the state of television, there are good shows I don’t watch because I already watch too many that are better.
My baby’s going to be three in May. I wish I could tell you it gets better, but I’d be lyin’ like Ennis del Mar trying to tell his wife exactly why that fishing creel never got used.
Have you tried House? My favorite, along with The Office and Project Runway and Survivor.
Well, I’m with you on three of the four I saw. But “Good Night and Good Luck” rocked.
Jennifer Weiner can’t afford a babysitter?
I saw nothing, except “March of the Penguins” because it’s already out on DVD, and the only movies we buy are for the kids. I totally suck. If it weren’t for satellite TV and TiVo, I’d never have anything to watch!
