I kept waiting for a new Planes Trains and Automobiles and never really saw it. What I loved was that once in a while Hughes would play with perspective, injecting a surreal subjectivity into stuff that could be pretty rote if done by someone else. Wedding vows in She's Having a Baby, the between-two-trucks scene in Planes, as well its half-remembered reaction shot when John Candy looks surprised before the cab speeds off, recreated from the earlier cab sequence that doesn't look a whole lot like it did earlier in the film.

One thing that's bugged me is his being labeled as a recluse. Should someone ever achieve fame, are they required to remain in that spotlight whenever evoked? I know it makes a journalist's job harder when interviews are denied and facts are sparse, but using these labels to talk about the person bleeds into the public's perception of their regular lives, even if they're neighborly enough in their own communities.

I'm not even sure the term recluse can be used responsibly, unless the person has completely withdrawn from the world outside, not just the press.
