"smarter" having little to do with IQ, obviously... how would we know? why would we care? the point is that Power has massive blindspots about the uses the purposes of American power, and is thus not so "smart" about what it can or ought to do.... Klein, for all her imperfections, can see better.

"in no way is Samantha Power smarter than Naomi Klein"

Wow. I would put big money on Power having the bigger IQ.

yeah, in no way is Samantha Power smarter than Naomi Klein... it's routinely evident that she has little idea what's going on; perfect Liberal interventionist, really.

It is in this country, Steve. But describe to me precisely how Power tacitly supports the Bush Doctrine. If an organization like the UN hopes to resolve conflicts and stop genocide, it must find a way of talking with odious people like Bush and the Khmer Rouge. That's a basic diplomatic maneuver that goes well beyond where you stand on the political spectrum. Klein doesn't seem to understand this in any of her three books (which I've read). I'm not fond of Paul Bremer, Thomas Friedman, and neoliberalism either. But I'm not foolish enough to suggest that working for a broader goal of humanitarianism involves not recognizing an inherent power structure, however odious it may be.

On what part of the Left is Samantha Power - or has neo-liberal imperialism (she has demonstrated her tacit support for the Bush Doctrine) with some homebound social concern thrown in now considered left wing?
