I'm wondering, Ed, about your opinion of the actual quality of Peter David's work as a writer. I was turned off early by watching the two "Trancers" sequel films he wrote (he appeared in one of them in a cameo as a castle guard who gets run through with a sword), which seemed to be absolute garbage, and pretentious garbage at that (all of the character names in this trashy action movie were taken from Shakespeare, with characters obtrusively named Polonius, etc.). His Comic Book Buyer's guide columns also struck me as egotistical (his comment about not being as good a writer as the creator of Peter Pan only for the reason of not having invented Peter Pan contained a tinge of this), and I've dipped into a few of his comics and not been impressed.

Anyhow, was wondering how you thought he measured up. I do realize you interview folks who aren't necessarily brilliant every now and then (Mort Walker, stooge), but Peter David seems to me kind of a bringdown in terms of the quality of his output to your usual fiction writing guests.
