The interviews with Cavett I've heard invariably devolve into a series of wan anecdotes about the usual suspects -Groucho, Woody, Carson, Mailer, etc. If I'm going to listen to somebody chewing the fat for nearly an hour, it might be interesting to hear their opinions on what in the current culture interests them or outrages them. Cavett’s celebrity derives itself from his TV show, which was an overrated exercise in star fucking.
