But I read three Updike-related books (including “Terrorist”) before talking to him, pored through numerous academic books for research and reread passages from several others and got Updike to talk about a number of things he hadn’t talked about in any ot the interviews featured in James Plath’s entertaining “Conversations with John Updike” collection. I also called him on his BEA speech. In short, eat me. The interview kicked ass. And in many ways, this is Updike as you haven’t seen him before.

I’m looking forward to his appearance at the NY Public Library this Thursday, but I don’t know if I’ll have the nerve to get that close. I eagerly await more details of your summit.
