Chimes at Midnight

Orson Welles has made appearances in four dreams I’ve had over the past week. And I don’t know why. Either old-time radio is very much on the mind or Mr. Welles’s spirit has found a way to collect residuals from Morpheus.

  1. Perhaps it’s because as Borges points out in his discussion of Citizen Kane: “At the end we realize that the fragments are not governed by a secret unity: the detested Charles Foster Kane is a simulacrum, a chaos of appearances.”
