Garrison Keillor: “It’s a guy thing, shoveling snow. It’s a form of marking. You shovel the walk to show other males that you’re on the scene and operating at full capacity lest they think about stealing your woman, though ironically your shoveling has made it easier for them to reach your house.”
You know, the last time I checked, chicks shoveled show too.

And most of the guys are being wusses by using snowblowers.
“…chicks shovel snow too.”
Not if they can help it.
I used to be a Keillor fan, but when he sued the very tiny t-shirt company selling shirts with “Prairie Ho Companion” on them… for a humorist, not much of a sense of humor. Which is further proven here.
I really hate to say it (and bear in mind, I”m from Wisconsin originally) but it really is a Minnesota thing. I can’t explain it, I can only observe and agree.
