According to Marianne Wiggins, one of the fiction judges for this year’s National Book Awards, “As for Pynchon, it was patently obvious it wasn’t a contender.’”

Well, Mason & Dixon wasn’t nominated for a NBA either, and I thought that novel was quite tremendous. So we’ll see.
Marianne Wiggins is Salman Rushdie’s ex-wife (bad divorce), and Rushdie and Pynchon are friends. So…
“Patently obvious”? Ms. Wiggins is tautologically redundant.
