It was to be written by Harlan Ellison and directed by Costa-Garvas. But more importantly, this is a fascinating story about behind-the-scenes shenanigans at Universal.

just a small correction ed. It’s Kostas Gavras, nothing in the middle. He is a Greek director living in France. Kostas is his first name and Gavras his surname. His most notable film is Z, an adaptation of a novel about the greek junta by Vassilis Vassilikos. Keep writing.
Not according to the IMDB and my memory of the films I’ve watched. (Z is pretty amazing.) Incidentally, do you know that Penelope Spheeris and Kostas are cousins?
