Bookish reports that singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens is now writing 50 songs for 50 states.

    That’s been his plan for some time now, but I read a few months ago that he may outsource some of the states to other songwriters.

    Springsteen reprising Nebraska? Or maybe he’s planning on hiring “the matrix” of Avril Lavine and Liz Phair fame. But I also recall an interview where he said the whole thing was a sort of hoax.

    Even more ambitiously, a duo called The Galactic Heroes (also known as Ricky and Mike’s Sing-a-long Group) have been toying with a similar idea for a few years - that is, a song about each one of the Founding Fathers. The only song they’ve let the light of day shine on is “George Washington”, which is a political mini-lesson on the origin of American politics. Amazing.
